5 out of 5 stars The best Pocket PC for your buck   July 2, 2008
2 out of 4 found this review helpful

At the time of purchase I had done my research, and for my specific use T-Mobile was the best deal for total data and voice. I have the 1000 my-faves plan with complete data add-on with a few extra features and it's 112 dollars a month. It's for business, and it works quite swell. There's a few issues I had with this phone at first, but they were quickly resolved.

1. At first, like everyone else, my camera wouldn't want to start up because of low memory. One thing I found that really helped was to delete the temporary files from Internet Explorer. Also, get a microSD card to store your pictures on.

2. The phone got very slow after about 3 months of use. It was doing funky stuff and just being slow in general. I always sync my phone with Outlook for my contacts/calendar/tasks so I just did a hard reset on the phone. Start>Settings>System>Clear Storage. Make sure you have your contacts and other important files backed up before you do a hard reset. Once you clear storage the phone operates so much faster. Everything loads quick, and overall the phone is just really fast.

3. Extra Apps: After doing a hard reset, it's best to install all additional applications on your memory card. I use a 512mb microSD and I've got about 10 extra apps and 200 2M pictures on there.

4. The best thing about this phone is the wifi connectivity. It's so simple to connect and it even has support for WPA2 now.

5. Stay updated with Windows Updates. The Office Mobile updates were free and now I have Office Mobile 2007 on the phone.

That's pretty much it. I really like the phone, and this thing has taken some serious abuse. I've dropped it probably 50+ times and nothing has happened. It's scratched, scraped, dented, paint chipped, and stained but the darn thing keeps running.

I'd like to upgrade to a newer Pocket PC probably within a year just to keep up to date and maybe the new Pocket PC OS will be out then. Overall, I gave this phone a 5 out of 5 because it deserved it. You have to be a little tech savvy to truly operate and effectively use this phone. I'm a tech nerd, and it works perfect in every way it's meant to be.

1 out of 5 stars Horrible customer service and BAD phone   June 22, 2008

We had a similar problem...my girlfriend's wings screen went out after 10 days or so. The screen is totally blank. There was no external damage to the phone or screen. She got charged $100 for the warranty exchange, stating they found physical damage to the phone and is not covered by warranty. She contacted customer care and requested they return the phone and was told the phone has been destroyed.

Destroyed...really? I doubt they destroyed the phone. They just want to make $100 profit. If they return the phone they got no profit. They probably just replace the screen on my old phone and sell it for $200 or so.

I believe it costs them less than $100 to make the POOR quality Wing because it costs Apple only $100 (you can find this info. By searching online) to make the new 3G iPhone which is a lot more advance than the Wing.

2 out of 5 stars cool phone/ horrible service provider   June 8, 2008

the phone is great for quick texting with friends, reading e-mails, passive web searches, and reviewing documents. you may find out, if you're wanting web speed, this is not the phone for you.
Combined with T-Mobile's horrible customer service and the inability to troubleshoot after being on the phone for 2 hrs. In addition if your phone ever becomes defective do not expect to got into a T-Mobile store for a replacement like you can with other carriers. You May instead expect to not have a phone for 3 business days (no they will not ship on Saturdays), pay a $15 shipping fee in additiion to the $5-$7 you each month for insurance and of course to replace your phone you will need to pay $50-$150 (depending on the "type" of device) if They find that it is damaged vs. defective.
but dont worry you can dispute the false "damage" charge with your cc company so that they have to prove the "damage" and voila! 30 days later you get your $50-$150 back.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent phone   May 14, 2008

I upgraded from an older pocket pc phone (SX66) and I'm quite impressed with the Wing. Windows Mobile 6 is a giant improvement over what I was using - pocket PC 2003. You might consider dividing the gripes about this phone into two categories - tmobile gripes, and gripes about the phone and windows. I think the gripes about TMobile are pretty justified - coverage is spotty, and the cellular data speeds are slow. But hey, I've got a $30/month plan, and I don't really need cellular internet, I just use wifi spots when traveling. Also, to note is that you can easily unlock these phones and use them with other GSM carriers.
But I love these phones for music, windows office compatibility, videos, and wifi.
If you just look at the phone itself, it is a great device. The sliding keyboard is excellent, easy to use, and it doesn't feel cheap at all, I don't even know what some of the reviewers are talking about there... I think this is one of the sturdier devices I've handled. The Windows OS is much much better, and it's actually a lot more friendly in the context of a phone. You can dial speed dials one-handed, you can dial your contacts one-handed with a few more menus to go thru, and of course there is voice recognition. You can get an 8 GB microSD card now, so you can store tons of stuff. You've got the 2 megapixel camera, which is executed nicely, and you can take videos too. I haven't gotten to use the MS office apps yet, but I presume they are functional. Basically, I think the device itself is top-notch. All the complaints revolve around TMobile, or GSM networks in general. You'll have the same kinds of problems with iphones, etc. But you can use your phone in Europe. For what it's worth.
I really like the tactile feel of the Wing, it feels really nice. And it won't slip out of your hands, it's got a nice tacky feel.
