Wonderful inspiring story October 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book was chosen by my book club as I had never heard of, or have seen this book before. The story is about a homeless man and his relationship with an art dealer and his wife. It is told from both men's point of view and very inspiring. It opened my eyes to the prejudices of homelessness from both sides that we deal with every day. And it opens up our ideas of blessings and what is truly important in our lives. I highly recommend this book to everyone. It is also a wonderful book to discuss and you will think about this for a long time.
Some Kind of Different As Me October 20, 2008 This was a book that was hard to put down. Beautifully written, a story that will touch anyone who reads it. Thank you Art Brown for recommending it! Rita McWhorter
Amazing and inspiring book! October 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm not one who actively provides a review on anything. This book was amazing and inspiring and I could not put it down. I highly recommend that everyone read this book.
Eye-Opening and heart-warming October 19, 2008 "Same Kind of Different as Me" is an incredible book. Ron Hall and Denver Moore tell their story with the help of Lynn Vincent in a completely unique set of voices. Chapters bounce back and forth between the two men who forge bonds with each other as well as the reader in this frank and inspirational true story. I was most charmed by the language of the writing that frequently made me lean back and close my eyes and listen to the voices rather than read the words. This book was wonderfully engaging.
Read it in light of the scripture...... October 17, 2008 3 out of 12 found this review helpful
I was actually a little discouraged reading this book as it was very mystical. Although I was initially intrigued with the story I found the second half of the book to be disturbing because of the "revelation" that the black character kept bringing to the white character and because of the visitation from the dead which is spiritism.
I also don't recall there ever being a clear representation of the gospel anywhere in the book although God is talked about throughout the story.
Be careful while reading this book; think deeply about what the scripture says while examining it's claims.
