What is the real "Secret"? December 11, 2008 The "secret" in life to wealth and happiness is simply thinking positive thoughts. Is this something you would teach your kids? Just imagine the things you want in life and you will have them. Your own kids would look at you like you have two heads if you taught them that. Even they know that's not going to happen. I believe in the power of positive thinking but this book just takes it to a fantasy land. I'm hoping this book can help people live a more positive life in some way. But if you want to read a book that will not leave you empty, read The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone, By John H. Eagan. Here I am sure you will find the real deal.
Just a hair off the mark December 10, 2008 Anybody who lives in this world knows that there is no magic formula that can bring success and happiness. "What you think about, comes about" - If that were true then everybody would win the lottery tomorrow. It was an interesting book but it was just off the mark. If you were to change the word "universe" to the word "God" you would have a more realistic view of the world.
If you're looking for an inspiring book and a deeper walk with God, you may want to consider the book entitled "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me after One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone" by John H. Eagan. I could see by the reviews here that many people are struggling with the meaning of life. If this is your problem, then "The Enlightenment" is your answer. The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone
Great December 9, 2008 Personally, I loved The Secret and gained tremendously from it. Though it seems almost too easy to be worthwhile, The Secret's lessons are very accurate and under practiced. Just by practicing the mentality described in the book will make you feel more optimistic and grateful. If you're still skeptical, go to a bookstore and read a chapter. You will gain a lot more from reading this book than what you can gan from a novel.
The Secret December 7, 2008 Ok, for all you cynics guess what the secret is "What You think about comes about". That's it Aristotle said it and probably way before him. So why I liked this book it's a reminder. Get it on tape and listen to it in your car instead of the crap on the radio. In fact stop listening all together to the radio and the negativity and get Eckhart Tolle Now. And wake up you are what you think about and we create what we think about and if you doubt that look around you and what you have and what your life is about and you will see.
Proof that slick marketing really can sell anything December 6, 2008 I read this book last year when it first came out on a tip from a friend. I sat down with it in the bookstore, intrigued and wanting to know... what is this secret? Ten minutes later I was audibly laughing out loud and even causing people to look. I contemplated standing up and hurling it across the room saying, "This book illuminates everything that's wrong with our culture!" I assumed most people would get the gist. They haven't. I had no idea that so much of the world was ignorant to the power of positive thinking. This must be the real reason for all suffering that continues to go on. I must be poor because I haven't believed that someday I will be rich beyond my dreams. I must not be married because I haven't wished for it hard enough. Shallowness runs up ahead and clangs the bell! Continuing, if one is to follow the premise of the book completely, then all poor, unhealthy, unattractive and overweight people, anyone not fitting the mold of a magazine covers constraints should be pushed aside, ignored, and pretty much discounted. This will illiminate 90% of the world's population and take away any sense of soul saving qualities such as empathy and compassion for your neighbor; but at least you'll be richer, thinner and prettier--the ultimate meaning of life, eh?
