5 out of 5 stars A New Earth   January 1, 2009

This book may change your life if you understand it. I recommend everyone should read it.

5 out of 5 stars Absorbing Book   December 30, 2008
Every page is full of substance. Eckhart Tolles' soft-spoken approach helps you filter through all the work. One can discover many principles of Buddhism and Taoism in this book. This is a book some people might want to read one page at a time and just contemplate on it the rest of day.
I see from reading the reviews on this site some people have recommend my book, "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone," and again I just want them to know how much I appreciate their recommendation, especially at such a excellent site. I wrote this book out of love and for the glory of God and Jesus, not for my own fame or fortune. I welcome people to read my book, I'm sure you'll find this non-fiction account of a loving God just as positive and inspiring.

5 out of 5 stars MUST READ!!!!   December 28, 2008
This book OPENED my eyes on many levels and challanged my own "way of thinking". One must read it with an open mind beyond religious and other beliefs and you will be MOST grateful you did. It really prompts one to LOOK in the mirror, take responsibility for your life, let go of the rest and connect to what is beyond our comprehension and the greater good!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Controversial for some, profound and real for others   December 27, 2008

I realize now that although this book has hit the ball out of the park for so many readers (including myself), there are many people who have great objections to the concepts within this book as well as the general teachings that Eckhart Tolle presents to those who choose to listen. It seems that the bulk of the negative reviews and comments are coming from the perspective of the Christian type. Perhaps it was the fact that Mr. Tolle describes these concepts as being close to some of the teachings of Christ. In my personal opinion, I can see the connection between the two. Those that find this to be false are merely basing that assumption on your own opinions and likely the opinions of those you surround yourself with.

Eckhart Tolle's description of the ego and the power it has can be seen in its practical form right here on all of these reviews and especially the comments. This review is essentially no different. Those of you who attempt to debunk and destroy Mr. Tolle's message are only showing everyone that his observations are in fact valid. He is presenting new forms of age old traditions and concepts that have withstood the test of time. Eckhart Tolle's observations are profound, and I have no doubt that he exists in this venue because we need him. Not as a messiah of any sorts. Not as God. Just a messenger. He is able to do what most other scholars, intellectuals, and spiritual mentors have been unable to do for some time: present these always already existing concepts to people in a universal context that can be understood easily by those who are truly willing.

I understand that many Christians will be offended by the message in this book. Eckhart Tolle walked out onto a very shaky branch when he shared his interpretations of Christ and other central religious figures. I only hope that Christians can still find a way to get through this book, it will surely give you a great deal of inspiration. The ego is something we all need to be aware of.

5 out of 5 stars A few of my "thoughts" about this book   December 27, 2008

I'm going to start out with what I feel are the cons about this book and then elaborate the pros (which FAR outway the cons!!!)I agree with some who say Tolle's writing is redundamt, wordy at times, and often a tad confusing. Not confusing as in the concepts explained, but confusing as in his specific wording. Some passages took me 4 or 5 times to re-read to figure out what he was talking about.. Even then, there were moments where I just simply had to move on, not quite 100% sure I understood what he was saying.

Additionnaly, there is a passage about eating disorders which, in my opinion, is too simplistic:

"If the sufferer could look at her body without the interfering judgments of her mind or even recognize those judgments for what they are instead of believing them - or better still, if she could feel her body from within - this would initiate her healing."

Have gone through (and conquering!!!) an eating disorder myself, I know from experience that there is much more to healing than simply feeling the "body from within". I was disappointed that he offered such a pat solution to a very complex issue.

Aside from these few cons, the rest of the book is aboslutely amazing and eye-opening! I can say it truly has changed my outlok on life this past year. Period. Yes, it does take some time to catch on to what he is saying, but once the light bulb goes off, the effects are startling!

My eye-opening moment came when he explained that "thinking" is just a process of the body like any other that's running in the background: breathing, digesting, sleeping, etc... I finally was able to "GET" how to observe thoughts.. in much the same way one would observe that they are indeed breathing, it is the same with thoughts.

That one particular passage nailed it for me. It toally sealed my understanding of everything else he says in the book!
