Heartwarming non-fiction book-Truly inspiring January 2, 2009 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book exceeded my expectations. A job well done by both author and subject. A truly inspiring experience by Greg Mortenson. Makes me want to go to Pakistan and Afghanistan to help education those children.
Inspire yourself with this book January 2, 2009 22 out of 23 found this review helpful
This book is a testament to the impact people can have on their own lives and on the world around them when they live with passion and urgency. Greg Mortenson didn't set out to change the world; a failed mountain climbing attempt landed him in a remote village in Northern Pakistan, and inspired him to build a school for its impoverished children. One school turned into two and three and eventually into the Central Asia Institute, an organization believing that the best way to fight terrorism is not with military force, but with education. This book reads like an adventure novel, but also has much valuable insight about the global challenges and dynamics we face today. It's an inspiring reminder that the best way to make an impact on your world is to live your life fully and passionately, in each moment, regardless of the circumstances. When you do, possibilities you couldn't have imagined begin to reveal themselves.
Living a passionate life is also a subject beautifully articulated by authors Ariel and Shya Kane. Their terrific books on living in the moment and being present in your life would be great companions to 'Three Cups of Tea'. Check out Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment, or Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: The 3 Simple Ideas That Will Instantaneously Transform Your Life. The approach discussed in their books (along with their workshops and internet radio show: Being Here) have made such an impact on my life, bringing ease and fun to situations that would formerly have been stressful. If you are looking for ways to take the brakes off of your life, step on the gas and start living it fully, I highly recommend picking up all of these books.

This is an amazing story of what one human can accomplish. It is touching and honest. A motivating story, that shows what each of us can do when we follow our hearts.

I LOVED this book! Whether you are philanthropic-minded, an educator, adventure traveler, trying to figure out the solution to the middle-east crisis or love reading thriller novels, you will love reading this book too. This should be mandatory reading in our schools and the Pentagon!

Fantastic story of a man that saw the real way to make the world a better place. This book should be on every desk in the whitehouse.
