5 out of 5 stars Shock Doctrine   October 11, 2007

This is a MUST READ for anyone interested in the future of democracy, such as it is in its badly withered present state. The writing is very well researched and footnoted. After reading only a part of it, I drove up to Santa Barbara to catch Naomi at the end of her book tour. In person, she is riveting. And, I bought another book there that she signed.

I have to say that the book I got early from Amazon was damaged...it had little tears on the top of several of the middle pages. I was planning to return it for credit, but ended up lending it out to a friend instead. I'm not sure I'll be buying again from Amazon because of this. Sending back is too much of a hassle.///

5 out of 5 stars Crisis psychology comes to global politics   October 11, 2007
Crisis theology was in vogue during my seminary days, stimulated by the popularity of neo-orthodoxy during those days. This book takes crisis logic to a different level, associating it with economics and warfare.

5 out of 5 stars The Shock Doctrine - Naomi Klein   October 11, 2007

A brilliant yet terrifying in-depth look at what we have become, what our tax dollars support and the takeover of human dignity we have condoned in the name of economic superiority.

Klein's book is brilliant and reads like espionage fiction! From her descriptions of public disorientation bordering on emotional slavery, coupled with physical assault after natural disasters, terrorist attacks and eventually government takeover and exploitation Klein's thesis is the ultimate reality check. State Sponsored and Supported terrorism is alive and well, practiced and perfected on a daily basis securing and ensuring total control! Disaster capitalism for the sake of preserving "neoliberal economics" and Klein's no frills revelation is in a language we all understand. Ecowiz Milton Friedman ranks with Oppenheimer and Hitler as an architect of mass-destruction perfecting the ultimate coup. Resulting the development of lurking in wait or initiating the crisis tactics, openly dividing the spoils, selling off to private individuals or corporations while the victims remain traumatized and led to believe it's all for the greater good until the life and economic changes are permanent with a Burger and fries on the side. It's Apple Pie Economics with a twist of sadism.

One is left reminded of the well quoted Turkish Proverb "When the axe came into the forest the trees said don't worry the handle is one of us"!

This book makes a difference - someone needs to.

5 out of 5 stars If enough people in the U.S. read this book, the world would change   October 10, 2007

This is the best book I've ever read. I've been an activist since the early 80's, have read Chomsky and Galeano and both of Amy Goodman's books - I've learned from all of them but I've learned more from Naomi Klein in just the first few chapters of this book than anything else I've ever read. I finally really understand the "economic shocks" that have been imposed in so many countries and destroyed entire societies for the sole purpose of major corporate takeover. Klein explains economics like no one else and I believe that if enough people in the U.S. would read this book, we'd have more than a "regime change". Please - buy as many copies of this book as you can and pass it on to friends, libraries, schools. Thank you, Naomi.

5 out of 5 stars This book is making me sick   October 9, 2007

I have always known a bit of what our 'government' was doing in Central and South America, but this is downright unbelievable.

Absolute and pure unfettered EVIL.

And as I learn more and more of the atrocities perpetrated by the ReichWing Corporatists who had HANDS ON involvement with the creation of military dictatorships in Central and South America, I become MORE and MORE offended that these same people proclaim to be Christians and that we are a 'Christian nation'

The next time an Evangelical starts screaming that God is punishing America becuase of Gays and Abortion I would love to be able to smack the b*tch upside the head with a copy of this book and show him what God is really punishing us for.
