Add to Mr. Tirone's Hewlett-Packard Books And You November 26, 2004 0 out of 12 found this review helpful
I purchased this book plus the "21 things" your broker never told you book several years ago at amazon. I enjoyed both books, though the gaping hole in their advice is filled like like the height of the Hoover Dam! by the best books on real estate computations imaginable for anyone in real estate or appraisal or just wanting to see more and know more about time value of money calculations using one or another of the Hewlett Packard financial calculators, the HP-12C and the HP 17BII. I bought Mr. Tirone's books--though I hear his HP-17BII book is out of print at this time?--from amazon. let me say that all of us in the office were amazed by the thorough and very cost effective book from Mr. Tirone on the HP12C used in real estate, "Professional Real Estate Problem Solving Using the HP 12C". Yes, we do mostly selling and hunting for listings in residential and to an extent in comemrcial real estate. But, we are lacking at times in our understanding of the flow of numbers through a real estate situation. Here is where the gap is plugged times ten by Mr. Tirone's real estate calculations books. His work is based, he has told me and it jumps from his example in his book, directly from things he taught many real estate agents and brokers and consultants in his seminars. The books should be mandaatory reading and study for all serious real estate professionals, and they are mandatory study in our company here in New York State. It is difficult to make a quick transition from a novice to a seasoned pro, but it can be done and you need all the help possible: a great broker; good books on the field; and you need some serious help where calculations are concerned. all are available from this great company, amazon.com. best wishes to all of you.
I'm Making Money, thanks to this book!! November 25, 2004 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I bought the book before I passed my test early in April 04, started reading it and was told by "people in the know" NOT to read the book till I passed my state test.
Ok, so I put the book down and didn't read it till July when I signed on with a broker. Thank God I read this book among others. I started putting into practice the ideas and guidelines in this book.
Dirk Zeller, surely knows what he is talking about.. I have been working since July, I have had my first listing, which sold in two weeks, and I currently have 1.5 million in listings!!!
I just sold my second listing and have three more listing appointments next week. This book was a major role player in my getting these listings. I highly recommend this book to new and so called "seasoned" agents that forgot what to do to make money!!
For $14 its not bad November 10, 2004 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I come from the world of hightech sales. I've been selling software for almost 20 years. With the down turn in tech I've decided to look at real estate as a potential career change and wanted to find something that could shed some light on what its like to work inside the industry. Given my strong sales background I found much of the content repetitive. Prospecting, managing clients, closing deals are all things I'm very familiar with so that didn't help me much. I'd also say there were areas where the author generalized too much, when I wanted specifics but over all I've concluded I won't find answers to all my questions in one book. Given that I thought this was a good place to start.
this book is not only for real estate agents... November 6, 2004 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I liked this book, although I can't say it was superb. I like Zeller's style of writing, the book was printed in larger print and with short but to the point sections. The book has 255 pages of information, but it's a very fast read.
I have to say that this book does have many positives. I want to mention that I did not read this book to become a real estate agent. When I first borrowed this book from a local library, I thought it was going to help me with buying and selling real estate. However, once I began reading, I realized that this book was a reference book for Real Estate Agents. My first instinct was to return it because I didn't really care about learning how to be a real estate agent. I wanted to learn about buying and selling real estate.
However, after few minutes I realized that this book might be beneficial for the fact that one day I will need an agent to help me buy or sell real estate. I thought that it would be a great idea to find out what a real estate agent is all about. This book really got me into the shoes of an agent, I learned more than I expected.
The first seven or eight chapters read like a self improvement book, but the rest is priceless for a first year real estate agent. Much of the techniques and strategies described in the book are common sense, however so is the information in self improvement books and yet I still love reading those. If you are seriously just starting out as an agent, I'd suggest you read this book.
In conclusion, this book will not blow you away, but it will give the first year real estate agent valuable lessons. Though, if you are really determined to succeed, I suggest you read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. In fact, even Zeller suggested that you read that book, as I noticed that he paraphrased many of Hill's ideas.
