5 out of 5 stars Engrossing Book   December 26, 2008
I really enjoyed this book "So You Don t Want to Go To Church Anymore" by Jake Colsen. The character Jake meets a disciple of Jesus in the twenty-first century. He learns from this disciple what it really means to live in the depth of Jesus Christ. I just finished reading another beautiful book entitled "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone" by John H. Eagan. It also deals with Jesus' great love for us. I'm sure you will find it a great read as well.

4 out of 5 stars It's About Relationship - Not Religion   December 23, 2008
This book confirms everything I've felt and been saying for years...it's not about religion but relationship!

God don't care what banner you wear or what organization you belong to. There won't be assigned places in heaven for Baptists or Catholics or even Pentacostals. I doubt He really cares about what you do to show how 'christian' you are...He cares about the condition of your heart and the state of your relationship with HIM!

Even if you are happy in your current house of worship, if you hunger and thirst for a deeper, more intimate, more personal relationship with the Father through Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit - read this book!

It will set you free to love Him and commune with Him in the kind of relationship He deserves and desires to have with you.

5 out of 5 stars A challenging way to look at your walk with Christ   December 22, 2008
The title of this book is very provocative, but the message is sound and biblical. So You Don't Want to Go To Church Anymore challenges the Sunday Christian mentality and motives of those who gather in Christ's name. Is Church a place? A building? A time to meet? Are you getting relationship with Christ and through other believers by simply attending? If you believe in Christ but get frustrated and bored with the religious routines, this book will help you put meaning to your emotions. If you are solid in Christ and a devout church goer, you will get a new perspective on what Christ intended for relations among believers and non-believers.

5 out of 5 stars I could be the main character   December 20, 2008
Obviously I'm not the main character, but so much of what he is struggling with mirrors my current situation. This book is definitely a read-more-than-once kind of book. To absorb all that is contained within these pages, I might have to read it four or five times.

The story challenges me to open my mind to God's plan, not try to fit him into a box, or make him do what I want, what I think is best.

I would recommend this, highly.

5 out of 5 stars If the church has ruined being a Christian for you, read this book   December 12, 2008
Great for both those who hate church and those who love church and wonder why others don't."So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore" is a creative story and an easy read. This book follows the path of one man's life from consuming consumer religion to authentic relationships with God and others. Realistic in its depiction of the complexities and the tensions of church life both with the Christian faith and relationship with Jesus. Many thought-provoing and enlightening tid-bits. Throughout the book, I was amazed at how many times I said to myself, "Wow! And I thought I was the only one who felt that way about church!"
