got ya December 31, 2005 58 out of 169 found this review helpful
I gave one star to get your attention. In this relative world of "ours" as it is well proven by all the reviews posted here, all the negative as well as all the positive points of view towards the book, some call it better/and /or worse than his previous work. It's all relative, the fact that you choose to cling to one idea of how things work or how things should work is irrelevant, the author doesn't even care, he is just stating facts that you may or may not be aware of. I myself feel like I'd jumped in the bandwagon, and joined all the supposedly reviews of the book which are no more than mere opinions of their own either contradicting the book or agreeing with it. (duhhh) So here it goes, I am the typical 32 year old man who wakes up in the in the morning wondering why am I here at all in this world. I am afraid of death as most people are, I am also in a constant state of unhappiness, the only thing that provides some satisfaction is as with most man sex, yet the rest of the day is just a waiting period untill I go to sleep and then the same thing the next morning, this book addresses all these subjects and lot more with such an unusual perspective that either you love it or hate it, as I stated in the begining it's all relative, but what really matters is that is has the power to shake the very foundations of any beliefs that you hold to be true at the present moment. I know that you don't care what makes me happy, what my gender is or any of the things I descrived here about myself, this so called "review" is for all those men who share the same miserable life as I do to go ahead and give this book a chance. Don't be afraid, be prepared though because is not easy to digest such profound content. Also I got tired of the tone of most reviews here the stereotypical guy who meditates all day and thinks that "he's made it" just by reading the book. No, it won't solve your problems,,, just buy the dammed book you'll be glad you did, or will you? ...
Aiding My Quest December 14, 2005 22 out of 25 found this review helpful
I have been on a spiritual quest for 40 years always searching for enlightenment. Mr. Tolle's approach has been my focus for the last few years and I find it to be an excellent path. He has managed to translate all the truth into a clear message supported by the words of wisdom of many great spiritual teachers. It's a simple message. No need to seek enlightenment, we are already there. Always have been...always will be. The challenge is finding awareness of the actions of the ego...sometimes uncontrollable...and separating those actions from our true self which is part of the unmanifested. It's like we're Dr. Jykell (the unmanifested) and Mr. Hyde (the ego).
The concept of the New Earth is something that I have felt for a long time. We humans as a species are evolving to the next level of being where awareness of unmanifested and the ego will be more balanced as a result the insanity we see all over the planet will start to dissipate revealing The New Earth which is already there.
It Really Is Up To Us December 13, 2005 49 out of 62 found this review helpful
As former Editor of Science of Mind magazine, I've read so many books about personal evolution and most of them sound like a broken record with the same tired phrases. Eckhart Tolle's books always explore new spiritual terrain. Just as The Power of Now tempts you back into practicing the power of the moment, this new book impresses you with the urgency of personal commitment for global change. Eckhart Tolle keeps me on my spiritual path and lights a new pathway with each new book. Thank goodness for his light. Elaine Maginn Sonne, PhD, Author of Stellar Secrets
Such a beautiful communicator December 11, 2005 There are few people who really know how to address an audience. And though I do not ordinarily go for CD's of talks by authors,Eckhart Tolle always has so much substance to his talks. And, actually, I heard Tolle's talks before I read THE POWER OF NOW--which I continue to re-read every now and again. (and I never tire of that classic book!) This is a worthy and logical follow up--very well done and up to the high standard of this spiritual communicator.
So recommend, but I also enjoyed M. WIlliamson's GIFT OF CHANGE and a lesser known work, FEARLESS: DOING EXTRAORDINARY THINGS... by L. Ulatowska. Good companions to this work.
This man speaks to me... November 30, 2005 21 out of 29 found this review helpful
This book takes over from Power of Now and Realizing.... It's less concerned with active meditation (Tolle reads without the long pauses) and more with practical guidelines for tuning into the now. I've heard many readers in the past and Tolle manages to get through to me as no other. If you're "ready"...this is a great experience.
