Transcending our ego-based state of consciousness December 16, 2008

The book tries to help people find inner peace and a greater fulfillment in their lives. A spiritual awakening and a transformation of consciousness is the goal. Eckhart tries to transcend ones ego-based consciousness. According to Eckhart it's the next step in human evolution it's all rather complicated to your average reader. There is a better way and a lot less complicated called "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers: A Message for Everyone" by John H. Eagan. This is a beautiful way to meet God through the author's enlightenment.

I enjoyed his last book more, The Power of Now. I don't think there was anything new here in his attempt to show us how to awaken our consciousness. I agree with the other reviewer who said he appears to be going around in circles.

One of the best books I have read that explains the ego, and also the pain body. Its a life changing book , if one wants to really change their lives.
I have given several copies as gifts and will continue to do so. Healing is at hand

I hate, hate, hate that I wasted even just a few hours of my life reading this book! He's an elitist who talks in circles and doesn't really share anything of value. You're better off looking elsewhere for enlightenment!

Having recently finished The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, which I found refreshing, Tolle's book was also revitalizing. These two books are not mutually exclusive as the subject matter would suggest. I still consider myself an atheist in the conventional sense, yet I know there is a larger dimension to spacetime then what we see and experience on a daily level. That is all Tolle is trying to say; and he does a good job at it, better than most contemporary authors. Older readers of these subjects might recall Alan Watts who had a similar message and an eloquence of delivery. Each person is entitled to their opinion and judgement, which is what these reviews are. No one is absolutely correct except to themselves. But I would highly recommend this book to anyone who questions their own certainty about life. Those who feel quite certain they understand all about life and themselves will not appreciate it....in fact they will dislike it. But that's my opinion.
