2 out of 5 stars Another book with new age mumbo jumbo   December 9, 2008
To quote the character from the movie "The Matrix" (what a mind job!)

In several places this author tells the attendees of his workshop that the divine has arrived, and he wastes their time by bowing to the divine 108 times. If I took the time to bow every time I encountered the divine I would live my life as a worm that crawled around on the ground because I see the divine in every insect, blade of grass, animal, etc, and I could never get anything done

Later on the author says that people will receive downloads just by reading certain passages in his book.

Dr. Eric Pearl also promised the readers of his book "The Reconnection" would receive downloads just by reading his book. I don;t see a lot of "Reconnection" healers springing up just by reading that book either.

Soul growth does NOT happen that way. I know from personal experience. Soul growth happens because of two factors.

1. the first step is the desire to change because the divine will NOT change you against your will.

2. Using your soul power to be of service to others. Good ways to start this is to learn things such as Qigong, Reiki, etc.

35 years ago I was a miserable excuse for a human being that left three school teachers, and 75 classmates or more lying in the floor. The martial arts had only turned an angry human being into a dangerous angry human being. Then in 1973 a Qigong master took me under his wing, and started teaching me three forms of qigong, a brief three years later I had been completely transformed from the walking/talking nightmare into a kind caring human being that would not kill a fly.

Fast forward 35 years I an still that completely transformed human being, have received the title master in seven other disciplines, and taught workshops in 30 of the 50 states, and three provinces in Canada.

This author is making promises he can't keep.

Sorry but I call them as I see them

4 out of 5 stars Another door to healing   December 8, 2008
I bought this book, because I practice EFT along with some other therapy tools and was curious about soul tapping. Although this book was not what I expected, I found it interesting. I think that some readers who gave negative reviews are having trouble with the grandiose appearing language the author uses. I'm unfamiliar with his background and teachings but I've found that kind of language common among Qi Gong masters.
Many of the author's teachings are compatible with the latest research and teachings on positive psychology. For those more drawn to a spiritual approach to healing rather than a psychological one, this book is an excellent guide.

1 out of 5 stars Save your money   December 5, 2008
As a practioner of "EFT" I was particularly interested to explore what this author calls "soul tapping." However, everything I read led me to two inescapable conclusions about this author: (1) he lacks any understanding of anything related to accupuncture meridians, and (2) he is an unskilled writer with a messiah complex. I also suspect that he may be the leader of a cult. It's the only explanation I can come up with for why so many people would have posted 5-star reviews, not only for this book, but all of his other books as well, but none for any other authors.

1 out of 5 stars Not for me   November 29, 2008
I got this book based on another reviewer's comparison to Eckhart Tolle, being an avid reader of Tolle's work I can say this book is nothing like it. It is strange, very strange, you have to disengage your rational mind to follow the author. I was going to put this book down after the first 50 pages but I was determined to finish hoping for a great insight from this book that made is a New York Times best seller. I was disappointed.
The theme of the book is "Heal and transform your soul first; then healing and transformation of every aspect of life will follow". This happens through Soul talk, soul song, soul dance, and soul tapping. You allow your soul to express itself and you heal. It reminds me of the self hypnosis performed by the Pentecostals that allow them to speak in tongues.
Dr. Sha's "GOLD" soul teachings on gratitude, obedience, loyalty, and devotion sound like teachings by a cult for control over peoples mind. Also the author claims to be chosen by the divine as a messenger.
That is to much for my rational mind to process.

2 out of 5 stars Slick marketing of spiritually themed entertainment   November 27, 2008
I hesitate to write this review because I can see how popular this book has been with many people. But as a member of the Vine Voice program I feel committed to holding up my end of the bargain, which is to review books I agreed to review. Fair enough?

I've been a committed spiritual seeker for more than 15 years now, having searched through just about every path to which I've had access. Inevitably, this included the New Age and New Thought genres. In reading SOUL WISDOM I am reminded of the words of an employee of a New Thought bookstore I used to hang out in: "I don't read self-help because it all basically says the same thing...." To be fair, SOUL WISDOM probably wouldn't be categorized as "self-help" but perhaps New Thought aligned "spiritual growth." (I think it's fair to say that this book is within the New Thought realm when it is forwarded by Michael Beckwith, a man who used to speak at a major New Thought church with which I was affiliated until it went belly up in a multi-million-dollar scandal, the head minister being investigated by the state of Oregon. But I digress.) And I can paraphrase the words of the employee of the New Thought bookstore: up to a point, all New Thought books basically sound the same. What keeps the genre going seems to be this or that flavor-of-the-month gimmick, which will soon be abandoned for the next flavor of the month. I have come to term this type of work as "spiritually themed entertainment."

At any rate, I'm probably going to regret publishing this review, but I am committed to upholding my agreement with the Vine Voice program. My recommendation is that if you are interested in the New Thought genre, go for the classics by the founders of the movement. It seems that anything published after the 1980s is just a quick fix gimmick that is forgotten as soon as Oprah has endorsed the latest marketing craze. (Hey, I hear a sequel to The Secret, in which Michael Beckwith appears, is due out soon!) Oh, and the accompanying CD with the "soul songs" is absolutely dreadful.
