Problem with Sound September 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this camera 2 days ago while on a trip out of state. I bought it to replace another easyshare camera (V803) I lost just the other day.
What I LOVED about this camera was: * Ease of use - menu navigation and controls * Easier to hold onto not as slippery * Fantastic and large LCD screen! * Great shots - not blurry like my other Easyshare V803 * Fantastic video
My V803 always froze on me to where I'd have to remove the battery. If I took pics of my kids they were ALWAYS blurry. I even had the camera serviced 3 times in the first year I had it and it still froze on me. But the MD863 took FANTASTIC shots! And I was impressed with the shutterspeed.
Only one major problem. The camera made a very high pitched noise when the LCD screen was on. When I recorded video the noise was amplified. The high pitched noise would stop when the LCD screen went off to conserve battery power. Called Kodak and they said I could send it in for repair but with my unsuccessful repair history with the other camera I am going to choose to return it to Walmart instead. I don't want to have to wait weeks for it to get fixed for one, and 2 I don't have a lot of faith that they will actually fix the dang thing. Kodak should just give you a new one when these things happen.
If I cannot get another one (same model) that works, I think this will kill it for me and Kodak. I know they are one of the best brands out there but if I cannot get any luck with 2 different Kodak camera models then I'd be stupid to purchase it again. It's true, hardward just isn't made like it used to be.
Kodak Easyshare Camera September 8, 2008 This product was a gift. Recipient loves camera. Overall, this is a great product and the service was exceptional as well. Thank you!
Love this camera! September 7, 2008 I have had this camera for 9 months and just bought one for my 12 year old daughter. Great pictures, easy to use features.
Cool little camera September 4, 2008 I bought this camera because I like to take candid shots. You know the ones where nobody is expecting the picture and then they're all yelling ERASE THAT! And I am very pleased that this camera makes those pics possible. Unlike other digital cameras that tend to flash for five seconds before taking the picture I can go ahead and click away and capture the moment, whatever it may be. The screen is hard to see in darker places like bars or dimly lit restoraunts but is usually able to be viewed after pic is taken thanks to the awesome flash. It has a pretty god face recognizer on it but I honestly don't have a reference of comparison. It also has quite a bit of options for picture taking including a two-to-three shot panoramic mode. I wish it came with a case but that's about the only real complaint I have. I keep it on 5 mega pixels for the pictures and they come out looking amazing and it allows around 2000 pics on a 2GB SD memmory card.
The zoom feature is nice but when it gets into the digital zoom arena it gets pretty choppy. Not much of a complaint their though as the normal zoom goes in pretty deep.
All in all if you want a camera to take out and just take fun pics with you can't really go wrong with this one. It has great quality and timing and I've always trusted Kodak cameras.
Kodak M863 - A great travel camera August 30, 2008 While this camera doesn't have everything, it packs a lot into a little package for a great price. I needed a small camera on a recent trip to PR. I got some great pics. My only beef which I listed in the con section was that the LCD screen turns into a mirror in bright light. I just pointed in the general direction and managed to get great pics anyway.
Pros: Small size (fit in shirt pocket), image stabilization, good battery life. LCD screen makes an awesome mirror in bright light (see cons). Excellent price for and 8+ megapixel camera especially when compared to models of similar size and features. 18 scenes available for different picture situations. HD Stills and digital image stabilization. Panaromic stiching of three sequential pics. Kodak is always very user friendly and very easy to use right out of the box.
Cons: No view finder just LCD screen. Can't see LCD screen in bright sunlight, only a good reflection of yourself. No rapid sequence pics like some other kodak models of similar size.
